Trending: co-working spaces

Have you seen one on a block near you?

These shared office spaces allow small businesses to share expensive rents in large urban areas — but they serve another important purpose: diverse collaboration.

The idea is that by bringing together people from different roles or industries, creativity rises.  This article from Harvard Business Review supports the idea of modular spaces that increase formal collaboration and chance encounters (like the typical rally around the water fountain — but better).

What if we designed a school to look like this — allowing students and teachers who are working on different projects to sometimes collaborate?

Even crazier? Office space destinations. Who would like to go to the Caribbean for a meeting? This article from the New York Times shows a new trend in co-working spaces. Love it! Let’s dream big and design our schools and lives in ways that maximize our time on earth. 🙂
